lessons

Are you interested in quality and personalized instruction from a professional performer and teacher with years of experience playing on stage and also working privately with students of all levels such as yourself?

Between the cities of Boston and Saint Louis, I have had the pleasure of teaching piano and music lessons for over 12 years.  Thankfully, I have had the opportunity to study privately with many great teachers such as blues piano great Bruce Katz and jazz legend Joanne Brackeen at the Berklee College of Music in Boston where I studied music for 4 years, and a great deal of my teaching style comes from the various styles that I have been instructed in throughout my playing career.  Lesson plans are always designed around the specific student and their needs and goals as a player all while learning the basics of harmony and rhythm; working on beginning to advanced playing and performance technique applicable to any style; and incorporating these lessons into the musical style and songs that students want to learn.  As a teacher, I also greatly enjoy communicating some of my personal approaches and techniques to all areas of playing music, performing music, and even improvising for students who wish to learn the art of improvisation in music.

Lessons are available at my personal teaching studio in Webster Groves MO, or at your home (*rates vary for travel)

Rates start at $160 per month for weekly hour lessons at my studio.  Bi-weekly lessons and/or half-hour time slots may also be available if desired.

All ages and levels are welcome to study.  In addition to piano, lessons are also available on keyboard, Hammond B3 organ, and synthesizer.  General music lessons, coaching, and mentoring are available for any instrument.

testimonials

“By the time our daughter, Bella Kalei, started taking piano lessons with Nate Carpenter two years ago, she had already studied with four different teachers since the age of seven. Although each of these teachers had something unique to offer, it was with Nate that she completely blossomed into the talented pianist (and singer-songwriter) she has become at 16 years old.  Nate has an incredibly diverse musical background in jazz, rock, classical and funk… and these are just the musical genres he has taught our daughter!  Providing this kind of broad repertoire has been extremely beneficial for Bella as she has the opportunity to explore and learn new styles. Having studied at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, in addition to being an active professional musician, gives Nate unique insights in providing instruction for whatever Bella needs, including technique, composition, theory and recording.  The patience, kindness and broad musical knowledge Nate constantly exhibits help make him an outstanding teacher. We would recommend Nate Carpenter as a teacher for any aspiring or accomplished pianist.” – Ted and Anne Ibur, Richmond Heights MO (edwardscottibur.com, annemolaskyibur.com, bellakalei.com*2013 Update: Bella has been accepted to and will be attending the Berklee College Of Music!!

“Since beginning piano lessons with Nate, our son Leor has really improved his understanding both classical and rock music, is very motivated to practice, and is also improvising his own piano solos to the music of The Beatles and Van Halen.” – Yael Shomroni, Webster Groves MO (facebook.com/YaelShomroniPottery)
